We are delighted to present a gallery talk with Paul Peters of Iris Antique Globes, Eeerbeek, The Netherlands.
Mr. Peters, Europe's premier antique globe dealer, will draw on his vast knowledge of the art, science and history of globe-making from the sixteenth century to the nineteenth century. His supporting cast will include rare and beautiful globes from his collection featuring Blaeu, Janssonius, Coronelli and others. Globes of this type have been placed by Mr. Peters in the National Libraries of France, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands and many others.
The main feature of the evening will be an in-depth survey of a very large pair of Terrestrial and Celestial globes crafted in Amsterdam in the first half of the 17th century. This matching pair of important globes are the largest ever crafted up to the time. Produced in the storied work shop of Willem Janszoon Blaeu, the Celestial globe dates to 1622, while the Terrestrial globe is dated 1645.
Prized by the finest museums and the most discerning collectors worldwide, this is a remarkable and rare opportunity to see the finest set of globes on offer today and hear from the world’s most knowledgeable dealer.
