"Apparent Motion of the Sun, Theory of Seasons"

Celestial chart of the rotation of the Earth around the Sun demonstrating how this movement affects the four seasons, published by French cartographic firm Andriveau-Goujon in 1849. The piece's central diagram shows the Earth's orbit over the course of a year, marking the Vernal and Autumnal Equinoxes and Winter and Summer Solstices. Surrounding smaller diagrams depict the Earth's daily and yearly rotational movements and show the Earth's axes from various angles. Extensive descriptive text in the piece's lower register expands upon its diagrams.
