Antique Texas county map published ca. 1925 by Wolf & Bennett for the Texas General Land Office. General Land Office maps show land patents, block and tract numbers, landowners, towns, railroads, and portions of adjacent counties where property boundaries extend beyond county limits.
This map shows Reagan County, est. 1903. The original county seat of Stiles is shown at center. In 1925 the seat would be moved to Big Lake, approximately 20 miles to the south. In 1923, the drilling rig Santa Rita #1 struck oil at the Big Lake Oilfield in the Permian Basin. The oilfield, located on University of Texas land, began the oil rush in the area and endowed the first Permanent University Fund. The county is bordered by Glasscock, Sterling, Tom Green, Irion, Crockett, Upton, and Midland counties.
