A Legible Land & Water Map
Large-format mid‑20th‑century fishing and navigation map of Galveston Bay and the upper Texas coast, combining detailed hydrographic soundings, channels, aids to navigation, and offshore structures with a legible overprint of roads, towns, bridges, and shoreline features from Houston to Galveston Island, accompanied at bottom by an extensive “Fishing Camp Directory”. Productive fishing locations, boat-launch sites, recreational facilities for the regional angler and boater are presented.
Very few copies of this map are known to survive, rendering this an exceptionally rare example.
Background on Creator
There is no reliable biographical information tied specifically to a “Gaylord Sickle” he was likely a regional producer, promoter, or distributor of fishing and boating guides rather than a widely documented cartographer, but confirming details such as his profession, residence, or other publications would require targeted archival or local‑history research.
