Antoine Desgodetz was a French architect most known for his 1682 publication Les edifices antiques de Rome, dessines et mesures tres exactment. This illustrated work is the culmination of Desgodetz’s field work in Rome, where he was commissioned by the French kings’ minister of finance to study Roman ruins and produce a mathematically accurate sourcebook for use by French practitioners. Desgodetz was so thorough in his findings that they are considered accurate enough to be reliable documentation to this day.
