In early January of 1891, The Sunday Gazetteer in Denison, Texas, reported that artist Thaddeus Fowler had been in the city for a number of weeks working on pencil sketches for a new bird's-eye view. Fowler's view captures the seemingly prosperous city with exceptional attention to detail as he appears to have illustrated every house, church, school and business in the city. Inset at the bottom of the map are more detailed views of several important local residences and businesses including the State National Bank of Denison, National Commercial College of Denison, and Denison's Exposition Hall among others.
