Arnoldus Montanus (c.1625-1683) was a Dutch teacher and author born in Amsterdam. His works spanned various topics, including theology, Dutch history, and geography, with a particular focus on far-off lands. While he never set foot in the Americas himself, his most famous book, "De Nieuwe en Onbekende Weereld" (The New and Unknown World), published in 1671, offered a detailed – though not entirely accurate – description of the Americas and their inhabitants. This richly illustrated book had a significant influence on European perceptions of the New World.
