Rare Broadside Program for the Celebration of Mexican Independence
"Decreed by the Regency the solemnity of the glorious anniversaries of the proclamation and consummation of our Independence, the Commission that was named for this purpose, has arranged to be celebrated as follows ... At seven thirty at night it will go to the Municipal Palace to the Imperial Theater ... leading the flags that served our HEROES ... the civic function will begin with a patriotic hymn ... the Act of Independence will be read ... which will be solemnized with a salute of twenty-one cannon shots in the square principally, ring on the fly in all the churches ... and all the demonstrations that the people must make." Mexico, September 10, 1863.
