Charming view of Chicago by Peter Roy published for the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893. This monumental event, held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas, was a turning point for the city of Chicago and America as a whole. It was by far the largest and most well-attended world fair held to date in the United States, and was instrumental in shaping the identity of Chicago and its inhabitants approaching the turn of the century. Numbered legend along bottom of image indicates major landmarks and buildings in the city, and red lines show railroad and ferry routes with arrows indicating directions to the fairgrounds.
