Map of Jackson Park along the banks of Lake Michigan, site of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, Illinois. This monumental event, held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas, was a turning point for the city of Chicago and America as a whole. It was by far the largest and most well-attended world fair held to date in the United States, and was instrumental in shaping the identity of Chicago and its inhabitants approaching the turn of the century. Map shows buildings used for exhibitions concerning subjects such as art, horticulture, transportation, machinery, agriculture, government, electricity, etc.
