Map of Yemen by Carsten Niebuhr, Danish cartographer and one of the leaders of the Royal Danish Expedition to Arabia (1761-67). Sent by the Danish monarchy in an attempt to discover the geographic origins of the Bible, the expedition passed through Yemen in 1763. Niebuhr's map of the region was widely used until the twentieth century.
