A Map of Martinico, from the latest and best Authorities

Map of the island of Martinique, a French overseas territory in the Caribbean's Lesser Antilles. Produced by British cartographer John Gibson for the London publication Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Chronicle, the map includes labels of the islands' topographic features, a compass rose, and a legend indicating settlements and landmarks of the island. Longitude is marked in degrees west from London. Inset in bottom left depicting Basse Terre, one of the islands that comprises the French Caribbean territory of Guadeloupe, which British forces invaded on January 23, 1759. Inset has separate compass rose and is oriented independently of larger map.
