The county seat of Marhsall is shown near its center, at the juncture of the Texas & Pacific Railroad and the Marshall & East Texas Railroad.  The county is bounded by the Big Cypress River in the north, the Sabine River in the south, and the State of Louisiana on the east.  Gregg, Upshur, Rusk, and Panola counties are on the west and southern boundaries.
