Gold-Rush-era view of the city of Sacramento, California by German publishing house Bibliographisches Institut, founded in 1826 by Joseph Meyer. Depicts the city, shown here in the midst of the California Gold Rush (1848-1855), very soon after its official founding in 1850. Image shows numerous ships and steamboats, as well as covered wagons bustling around the growing settlement. To the left-hand side of the image, one can barely make out the marquee lettering on two of the buildings which label them as a hotel and a theatre. In the lower right corner, a political campaign banner flies from the masts of a ship.
