Unrecorded Map Showing Texas' Oil Production Network on a Grand Scale
This large-scale map of Texas was created during a peak period of oil production in the state, compiled by Gulf Oil Corporation's Civil Engineering Department. It showcases an extensive oil distribution network spanning from Midland to Dallas/Fort Worth and extending southeast to Lufkin and Houston. The map features a detailed legend that includes county seats, pump stations, pipelines of various diameters (ranging from 3" to 26"), railroads, and post offices. The scale, at 1” = 18 miles is extraordinary and allows for an immense amount of detail to be depicted.
The map is color-coded by land district and divided into counties, with an alphabetical county list provided in the lower left corner. A prominent feature is the iconic Gulf logo, which is displayed off the Texas coast in the Gulf of Mexico. Based on the Gulf logo design used, this map is estimated to have been produced between 1960 and 1964. This map serves as a valuable historical document, illustrating the extensive oil infrastructure in Texas during a significant period of the state's oil industry development. It provides insight into the scale and reach of Gulf Oil Corporation's operations in Texas during the early 1960s
