From Coloured Figures of the Eggs of British Birds, Sheffield, Pawlson & Brailsford, 1896
Henry Seebohm was an English steel manufacturer, and amateur ornithologist and oologist (a studier of eggs). He made numerous scientific expeditions around the world, exploring his areas of interest and gathering specimens for his collections, and published several fine works on birds and eggs. A number of birds were named in his honor.
The single-volume Coloured Figures of the Eggs of British Birds was Seebohm's last work, and was completed and published posthumously by Richard Bowdler Sharpe of the British Museum. It is from this work that the lovely original plates in our collection are drawn.
