Rare and valuable atlas map of Texas by J. H. Young published by Thomas, Cowperthwait & Co. in Philadelphia. Divides Texas into its various counties and provides detailed annotations relating to the region's climate, terrain, and history. Marks trails and rail routes through the state, as well as the locations of Native peoples. Contains parts of Mexico, New Mexico, Indian Territory, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Also contains two inset maps, one of 'Northern Texas' and another of the 'Vicinity of Galveston City.' The Galveston inset depicts parts of Brazoria, Galveston, and Liberty Counties with Galveston Island, Galveston Bay, Bolivar Peninsula, Pelican Island, and West Bay. Map shows Texas as it appears today, with its northern boundary, long a point of contention, solidified at 36° 30.' Along the left-hand border appears information about the demographics of the Texan population.
