John Thomson (1777–c. 1840) was a Scottish cartographer from Edinburgh. He is best known for his New General Atlas, published in 1817, which was a commercial success and compiled existing geographic knowledge in compelling ways for a wide audience. The atlas was notable for its clear and concise maps, which were based on the latest surveys and research.
