"Scopa, commonly called Schuepa, Elegant city of Misnia."
View of Zschopau, Germany from Civitates Orbis Terrarum (1572-1622), a collective work engraved by Hogenberg and edited by Braun which contained 542 birds-eye views of cities around the world. This view shows the city of Augsburg to the right on the distant horizon, while the road to and from Prague runs through the foreground. A cartouche to the right labels these features, as well as the city's castle and parish church, the River Zschopau, and the road to Leipzig. In the foreground, a few of the city's inhabitants engage in conversation, while behind them other figures make their way towards the city. The grid of green pastures and tilled fields outside of the city walls suggest the agricultural abundance of the region.
